Ash and co. are sticking with Professor Birch for awhile. They have just finished eating one of Brock's delicious breakfasts. Ash then asks the professor if he wants to take a look at the new Pokémon he caught. Professor Birch thinks it's a great idea. Ash sends out all of his Pokémon. Professor Birch notices Ash caught a Corphish. He says hello to it. Corphish hits Professor Birch on the head. Ash tells the professor that Corphish is just saying hello. May sends out her Silcoon. Professor Birch tells May that her Silcoon will become a gorgeous Beautifly. Then Brock sends out his Mudkip and Lotad to show to the professor. Professor Birch examines Lotad very carefully. He then reports that all of their Pokémon are beautiful.
Meanwhile, Jessie is tending her Cascoon. She hopes that it becomes a beautiful Beautifly. Jessie still thinks her Cascoon is a Silcoon. James and Meowth tell Jessie that she has a Cascoon. James shows her a picture of a Silcoon. The picture and Jessie's Pokémon do not match. Jessie thinks that the picture is wrong.
Max wants to search for some rare Pokémon. Professor Birch says Dewford has a lot of unique Pokémon. Max wants to know where they are at. Suddenly, three Seedot fall from a tree. May looks up Seedot in her Pokédex. The Seedot look unhappy because the haven't had anything to drink. Max holds out a cup of water to the Seedot. Brock says that the Seedot drink from the moisture in the trees. However, there isn't any moisture in the trees, and some of the trees have been knocked down. Professor Birch says that Seedot like being rubbed with a leaf. Max finds a leaf and rubs it on Seedot. Seedot enjoys it. Then Professor Birch gets on the ground and begins to roll over with the Seedot.
Team Rocket are watching Professor Birch and the Seedot from above. Meowth thinks that they should capture the Seedot and bring them to the boss. James doesn't think the boss would like the Seedot, but Jessie tells him that thty will capture them anyways. Team Rocket goes over to Ash and co. Jessie has her Seviper use Haze. Ash sends out Corphish. Corphish uses Vicegrip on Seviper. Then Jessie sends out her Cascoon. Jessie still thinks that her Cascoon is a Silcoon. Professor Birch tries to tell Jessie that she has a Cascoon. The differece between a Silcoon and Cascoon is their eyes. May sends out her Silcoon. Both Pokémon tackle each other.
Suddenly, Silcoon begins to evolve into a Beautifly. May is happy that she finally got her Beautifly. She looks up Beautifly in her Pokédex. Jessie is angry that May's Silcoon evolved before hers. She tells Cascoon to use String Shot on Beautifly. The attack is just about to hit Beautifly when Corphish jumps in and breaks the thread. Then Corphish hits Cascoon with Crabhammer. Cascoon knocks into Seviper, who knocks into Team Rocket causing them to blast off.
Professor Birch congratulates May on her new Beautifly. Brock gives May some special jelly for Beautifly. May thanks Brock for his generosity. Professor Birch tells May that if she wants to do well in contests, she will have to practice Beautifly's attacks. According to Max, Beautifly can use Gust and Stun Spore. May tells Beautifly to use Gust. After it does so, Professor Birch takes out a frisbee and hands it to May. May throws the frisbee in the air. Beautifly uses Gust to keep the frisbee in the air until it falls.
Team Rocket has landed on a branch which rests on a cliff. Jessie still thinks her Cascoon is a Silcoon, and she wants to train it a lot so that it will become a Beautifly. James and Meowth sigh as they know Jessie has a Cascoon, and it is impossible for it to become a Beautifly. Meanwhile, Ash and co. are trying to place the Seedot on each tree. The Seedot, however, don't like any of the trees in the forest. They decide to try another forest.
Jessie's Cascoon and Meowth are battling against each other. Cascoon defeats Meowth with a Tackle. James announces that Cascoon is the winner. Jessie reminds James that she has a Silcoon. Next, Jessie wants to face Cacnea. Cacnea uses Pin Missile, but Cascoon uses Harden to endure the attack. Then Cascoon uses Tackle to knock out Cacnea. Meowth announces that Cascoon wins. Jessie gets angry at Meowth for calling her Pokémon a Cascoon. Jessie then wants to battle stronger opponents. These opponents happen to be Ash and co.

Ash and co. enter another forest. Professor Birch places Seedot on a tree. Seedot seems to like the tree. The forest is also a good place to roll around. Suddenly, Team Rocket appears, and they say their motto. Jessie then tells Ash and co. that she wants to battle them so her Pokémon can become a Beautifly. Professor Birch tells Jessie that she has a Cascoon. Jessie doesn't believe him. Beautifly decides to battle Cascoon. Beautifly uses Gust to blow Cascoon to the ground. James and Meowth know that all hope is lost. James decides to help out with Cacnea. Ash sends out Treecko. Cacnea uses Pin Missile towards Treecko. Treecko dodges and uses Pound. Meowth decides to capture the Seedot. Before he can capture them, Brock's Mudkip hits Meowth with Water Gun. Then Jessie has her Cascoon hit Beautifly with Tackle. Max reminds May that Beautifly can use Tackle too. Beautifly uses Tackle at Cascoon. Jessie, enraged, has her Cascoon use Tackle at full power, but Beautifly uses Gust to blow Cascoon away again.
Suddenly, Cascoon begins to glow. Jessie is so happy that she is going to get a Beautifly. Just as soon as Cascoon becomes a Dustox, James puts a cover over it. Then Meowth with Beautifly wings dances around. It is pretending to be the Beautifly. Jessie tosses Meowth out of the way. When she removes the cover, a Dustox pops out. Jessie is shocked to see a Dustox. Ash looks up Dustox in his Pokédex. Jessie doesn't understand how she got a Dustox. Professor Birch again tells Jessie that she got a Cascoon, and the only thing it could evolve into was a Dustox. Jessie adores her Dustox. James and Meowth are surprised by this.
Jessie wants to battle May's Beautifly. James tells Jessie that Dustox can use Tackle, Poison Sting, and Psybeam. Dustox tackles Beautifly. May didn't think that was fair since she wasn't ready. She doesn't want to lose to Jessie. She has her Beautifly tackle Dustox. Jessie gets angry and tells Dustox to use Poison Sting. Dustox fires the attack, but Beautifly uses Gust to evade the attack. Then Dustox uses Psybeam. Cacnea jumps in and uses Pin Missile. Both attacks are headed for Beautifly. Suddenly, Treecko jumps in and takes the hit. Ash calls back Treecko and sends out Corphish. Cacnea fires another Pin Missile, but Corphish dodges the attack. Then Beautifly and Corphish use their attacks on Dustox and Cacnea. Both of Team Rocket's Pokémon are knocked out. Finally, Corphish uses Bubblebeam to blast Team Rocket off again.
Professor Birch examines the soil. It appears to be full of nutrients. The Seedot are happy that they have a place to live. Professor Birch needs to leave back to Littleroot Town. Ash and co. wave goodbye to the professor. Since Ash didn't do much training, he has to make up for it the next day.
