After suffering a defeat from Whitney, Ash brought his Pokémon to the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy comes out of the emergency room and reports that Ash's Pokémon are fine. Nurse Joy considers Ash to be lucky. A lot of other trainers lose from Miltank, and they end up at the Pokémon Center, but Ash's Pokémon are in better shape than the others. Ash is glad that his Pokémon are okay, but he isn't too happy about the fact that he lost to Miltank. Misty and Brock don't think there's any way to stop Miltank, and that makes Ash worried. Nurse Joy states that trainers need time to recover from battles too, not just their Pokémon.
The next day, Ash greets Pikachu, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Whitney walks in the Pokémon Center. She is glad that everyone is alright. She tells Ash and co. that she has a special place that she wants to show them. Ash and co. follow Whitney. While walking, Whitney explains to them that she is leading them to a dairy farm where lots of Miltank live. She adds in that her uncle runs the farm. Whitney also says that the Miltank milk is very good, and it might help power up Ash's Pokémon.
Ash and co. see a lot of Miltank when they arrive at the farm. Whitney greets her Uncle Milton, and they all head inside the house. Milton brings out a tray full of Miltank milk for Ash and co. to taste. Ash lets out Cyndaquil and Totodile, so that they can try some too. They all give the Miltank milk a taste, and they love it.
Team Rocket is back in Goldenrod City after hitting a brick wall in Saffron City from the Magnet Train. Jessie and James are both exhausted, and they fall to their knees. Meowth tells them that they can't give up yet because they might find some rare Pokémon. Right in front of them is a herd of Miltank. Meowth thinks that they might have stumbled upon a Miltank dairy. Jessie and James are dreaming about all the tasty dairy foods that they can get from the Miltank. Meowth spots the dairy barn, so they all decide to go in there.
Ash and co. are complimenting on how great the milk was. Whitney decides to go and get a bunch of things for Ash and co. to try. Meanwhile, Team Rocket found the back door. They open the refrigerator and see shelves of milk, butter, cheese, and yogurt. Whitney sees Team Rocket raiding the refrigerator. Whitney recognizes Team Rocket as the ones who stole her Clefairy. She orders them to stop. Team Rocket ignores her, and they run out with the goods. Ash and co. begin to chase Team Rocket. Pikachu uses its Thundershock attack to stop them.
Team Rocket wants to battle. They send out Arbok and Weezing. Whitney sends out Miltank. She orders it to use Rollout. Miltank slams into Arbok and Weezing. Then it slams into Team Rocket, and they blast off again. Milton is thankful that Ash and co. saved the dairy products. Ash tells him that he would like to learn more about Miltank. Whitney knows a perfect way how Ash can learn more. She has Ash, Misty, and Brock groom the Miltank with brushes. Ash likes it because he wants to learn more about Miltank so that he can beat Whitney's. The Miltank that Ash is grooming suddenly gets up and begins to walk away. Ash wonders where it is going. He pulls on its tail. The Miltank hate that, and it kicks Ash towards the fence. Whitney forgot to warn Ash that the Miltank hate it when you pull on their tails.

Ash and co. then take three of the Miltank to a special room. The Miltank are connected to a machine, and the machine takes milk from the Miltank. While Milton is doing that, Whitney decides to train her Miltank in the hills. Ash, Misty, and Brock decide to go with Whitney. Whitney is at the top of the hill. Whitney orders Miltank to roll down the hill by using its Rollout attack. Miltank begins to roll down the hill, and then it rolls up the hill. Ash finally realizes the reason he lost. Whitney has trained her Miltank so well, but he still wants to get the badge.
Team Rocket is watching Ash and co. from their machine which happens to be a giant barrel. They begin to roll up the hill. Whitney notices the barrel. Team Rocket jumps out of it, and they say their motto. They demand that Whitney gives them her Miltank. Whitney refuses to do that, so Meowth pushes a button on the remote. A mechanical arm shoots out and grabs Miltank. Then Team Rocket gets back inside their barrel, and they begin to roll down the hill. While rolling, they grab Pikachu with a second mechanical arm. Pikachu uses Thundershock, but the attack has no effect on Team Rocket.
Ash and co. begin to run away from the barrel. Ash knows that running away isn't an option, otherwise Team Rocket will get away. He sends out Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil uses Tackle on the left side of the barrel, causing it to spin and make Team Rocket dizzy. Then Ash sends out Totodile. Totodile uses its Water Gun attack to make some ditches in the ground. Jessie realizes that they can't steer the barrel. Meowth thought that they could just roll down the hill, so he didn't put steering inside. So Team Rocket begins to roll down the hill, but they get stuck in the ditches. Then James messes around with the controls, but he breaks them. Miltank and Pikachu are set free. Jessie and Meowth are angry at James for ruining their plan. Finally, Pikachu uses Thunderbolt attack on Team Rocket. Team Rocket blasts off again.
Milton asks Ash if he can do anything to repay him for saving the Miltank. Ash wants to battle Whitney again for his Plain Badge. Whitney accepts Ash's challenge. Ash plans on using Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Pikachu for his battle. He discusses his plan with his Pokémon. When they are ready, the battle begins.
Ash sends in Cyndaquil for battle. Miltank starts off with its Rollout attack. Cyndaquil uses Tackle on Miltank. The attack doesn't seem to have slowed Miltank down at all. After getting hit by a few Rollout attacks, Cyndaquil faints. Ash returns Cyndaquil back into its Pokéball. Ash sends in Totodile next. Totodile begins to use its Water Gun attack on the ground to create ditches. Misty and Brock are trying to figure out Ash's strategy. Totodile then uses Water Gun to place itself on top of Miltank. Miltank shakes Totodile off and uses Rollout on it. Ash returns Totodile back into its Pokéball.
Ash's last Pokémon is Pikachu. Pikachu starts off with its Agility attack. Suddenly, Miltank rolls right into one of the ditches that Totodile created. This gives Ash the advantage. He tells Pikachu what to do. Pikachu stays low in one of the ditches. Miltank heads straight for Pikachu, but it bounces off the ditch. This allows Pikachu to headbutt Miltank into the air. It then uses Thundershock on Miltank. Miltank tries to recover from the electrical attack, but it can't. Ash is the winner.
Misty and Brock are impressed by Ash's strategy. Ash knew what he was doing all along. Ash walks over to Whitney. Whitney presents Ash with the Plain Badge. Ash is happy that he finally won his Plain Badge. Now Ash and co. will continue their way through Johto.
