Ash is imagining himself at the Pokémon League with thousands of people cheering for him. He throws a Pokéball but the Pokéball turns to gigantic size and sucks Ash in. Mr. Mime is really vacuuming Ash's face. Ash gets dressed and heads down for breakfast. Ash tells his mom that Mr. Mime woke him up. He tells Mr. Mime to clean Misty's face but Mr. Mime just stands there. Mrs. Ketchum tells Ash that Mr. Mime only listens to her. Brock tells Ash to eat quickly because they have to still visit Professor Oak.

Team Rocket is dragging along to the boss's headquarters. They decide to quit their job when suddenly the headquarters explodes and a mysterious Pokémon flies out of it. Giovanni comes out and Jessie, James, and Meowth walk up to him. Giovanni asks why they are here. James starts to speak but a helicopter flies down. Giovanni tells them to just do their job. He walks in the helicopter and they take off.

The doorbell rings and Ash and his friends walk into Professor Oak's lab. Professor Oak greets them and he says hello to Togepi. Professor Oak leads them to a room where Gary is. Ash and Gary stare and get mad at each other. Professor Oak tells them that they are both Pallet Town's top trainers. Ash's Krabby comes in and it brings a tray of drinks to them. Professor Oak says that four trainers left Pallet Town but only Ash and Gary earned the most badges. Professor Oak explains that the Pokémon League is in Indigo Plataeu and it's exactly two months from today.

Team Rocket appears as news reporters at Mrs. Ketchum's door. The news reporters are from PNN (Pokémon News Network) and they want to interview Ash. The news reporters are really Team Rocket in disguise. Suddenly, Mr. Mime rushes out and it sweeps Team Rocket away.

Gary sends out his Krabby for Ash to look at. Gary's Krabby is about 4x bigger than Ash's. Gary assumes that Ash uses the same Pokémon to battle and he's correct. Gary provides Ash some more tips on battling with Pokémon. Professor Oak has just got done scanning both Ash's and Gary's Pokédexes. He tells them that Gary has seen 60 Pokémon and Ash has seen over 100 Pokémon, but Gary has caught much more Pokémon than Ash. Gary tells Professor Oak to go to the room where all his Pokémon are. Professor Oak shows Ash all of his Pokéballs although most of them hold Tauros from the Safari Zone. Then Professor Oak tells them that Gary has captured more than 200 Pokémon. Ash asks if the Pokémon Gary has are his friends. Gary doesn't admit it but he tells Ash that he's a much better trainer. Professor Oak tells them that they both have different views for caring and raising Pokémon.

Team Rocket is walking along towards Professor Oak's lab. They are all tired but they continue to walk. Jessie kicks a rock at a tree. Suddenly, a bunch of Kakuna appear from the tree, and so there must be Beedrill nearby. Team Rocket runs from the Beedrill and then they bump right into a Snorlax. With them trapped, the Beedrill sting Team Rocket.

Professor Oak tells everyone his schedule for the day. In the morning, he checks up on the Pokémon and feeds them their breakfast. Then he feeds them their lunch. In the afternoon, Professor Oak starts his research. Then Professor Oak feeds them dinner and back to the Pokéballs they go. Gary's Doduo walks up to them and Ash takes out his Pokédex to look up Doduo. Professor Oak must learn a lot from this. Then he says that the Pokémon take on the characteristics from the humans that capture them. Brock thinks that he has a girlfriend because of this. Suddenly, Muk comes out and topples over Professor Oak.

Team Rocket is climbing up a cliff so that they can get Pikachu. Jessie accidently touches a Geodude. She tosses Geodude to the side and then a Sandshrew scratches her. Suddenly, and Onix comes and it chases Team Rocket. Misty is looking at all the water Pokémon in the pool. Ash thinks that Professor Oak has every single Pokémon but Professor Oak disagrees with him. He says that there are still some Pokémon that no one has ever seen yet. Ash recalls a time when he saw that mysterious Pokémon the day he left Pallet Town. Gary challenges Ash to a battle and Ash agrees to have one.

Suddenly, something explodes. The explosion came from a bunch of Voltorb and Electrode. Team Rocket climbs out of the hole in the ground. Ash and co. rush to the scene. Ash shouts out to Team Rocket and he asks them of why they are here. Meowth starts to talk. Professor Oak and Gary are surprised to see a talking Meowth. Gary and Ash want to battle Team Rocket. Suddenly, all thirty of Ash's Tauros stampedes over the fence and they knock Team Rocket in the air which sends them blasting off again. Professor Oak congratulates Ash because his Tauros were the one that saved the day.

Gary decides to head on home. He tells Ash that they can battle at the Pokémon League. Then he waves goodbye to everyone and heads on home. Ash knows it will be a lot of work but he wants to train right away. Professor Oak hands Ash a couple pieces of wood. He tells Ash to fix the fence that his Tauros broke. Then he gives Misty and Brock some materials too so that they can help Ash. Professor Oak tells them that helping him would make them all a better person.
