Ash and co. have stopped at a very small village. Ash does not want to go because they don't have a gym. Brock tells them that they don't have any potions and antidotes left, so they have to stop. Misty suggests that they eat something too. Ash wants a cheeseburger but Misty wants to eat at somewhere fancy. They both begin to fight but Brock breaks it up. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is spying behind the bushes. They want to sneak into town but Meowth appears to be sick. Jessie and James order Meowth to get up. Jessie feels Meowth's forehead and her hand burns up. Before Jessie and James leave, a young woman shouts at them. Her name is Cassandra. She calls them irresponsible for abandoning Meowth. Cassandra prepares some medicine for Meowth to drink. Meowth gets cured. Cassandra gives Jessie some pills and runs off. Meowth falls in love with Casssandra.
Ash and co. walk into a old-looking house. It's dark inside. They see an old woman making something. Soon later, Cassandra appears and tells her grandma to stop scaring the customers. Brock tells the Cassandra to have dinner with him. Cassandra decides to have a Pokémon battle instead and Ash wants to battle her. Team Rocket is sitting on a tree looking at Ash and co. come out. Meowth is still in love with Cassandra.
Cassandra introduces them to Paras. Paras is very afraid of Pikachu. Cassandra tells them her story about how she wants Paras to evolve into Parasect. When Paras evolves, Cassandra can make a brand new potion for Pokémon. Team Rocket are spying behind a tree. James gives Meowth some support. Then Jessie grabs a newspaper and hits James and Meowth hard. Ash tells Pikachu to let Paras win the battle. Pikachu fires a tiny spark at Paras and Paras is already hurt. Jessie and James comments on how Paras is pathetic. Brock thinks that they should look up Paras's type. Dexter says that Paras is a Bug and Grass type Pokémon. Ash takes out Squirtle to battle. Squirtle sprinkles a few drops of water on Paras and it already is hurt.
Cassandra asks Paras if it's okay. She then softly tells Paras to give it another try. Ash refuses to give up and chooses Charmeleon. Charmeleon glares at Ash and uses Flamethrower on Paras. Paras is shocked and runs away. Then Charmeleon uses Flamethrower on Ash. Pikachu shoots out a Thunderbolt at Pikachu and Charmeleon gets knocked to the ground. Ash returns Charmeleon back into its Pokéball. Misty and Brock decides to look for Cassandra's Paras. Paras is walking along when it runs into Meowth.

After a lot of searching, everyone meets up with each other. None of them have found Paras yet. Brock asks about the potion Cassandra wants to make. Cassandra tells them that she wants to make a miracle potion that can increase the Pokémon's strength and smartness. Meanwhile, Meowth has brought the Paras to Jessie and James. He asks them to help train Paras to become stronger. Jessie and James asks of what they get in return. Meowth tells them that Cassandra is making a new potion that could make millions of dollars. Meowth says that he would be the top cat and Jessie and James could be his buisness managers. Then Meowth says that he needs to borrow Arbok and Weezing for the training.
Arbok is Paras's first opponent. Since Paras is too scared to battle, Meowth knocks Arbok out and they pretend that Paras actually beat Arbok. Paras's next opponent is Weezing. Weezing aims for a Tackle but Meowth pulls a branch down and Weezing runs right into it and faints. Paras looks really confident now. Paras even beat Meowth. Ash and co. call for Paras and Team Rocket hides. Cassandra finds Paras on a tree. Paras jumps down from the tree. Paras looks confident and they decide to battle again.
The battle begins. Paras pinches Pikachu's tail. Pikachu is about to electrify Paras when Ash tells it that it can't. So Pikachu faints. Cassandra and Paras cheer for their victory. Ash sends out Charmeleon again thinking that it would battle. Charmeleon doesn't listen to Ash and Ash wonders why. Cassandra's grandma tells Ash that he doesn't have enough experience yet for Charmeleon to obey him. Cassandra tells Ash to call Charmeleon back because it's too strong. Before Ash can, Charmeleon shoots fire at him. Charmeleon shoots more fire at Paras but Paras dodges them all. Team Rocket decides to help. They dress up in costumes and cheer for Paras. Charmeleon doesn't like their cheer and so he uses Flamethrower on them.
Charmeleon angrily walks towards Paras. Before Charmeleon can give the final blow, Paras sticks out one of its pincers and Charmeleon freezes. Charmeleon falls backwards and it faints. Suddenly, Paras evolves into Parasect. Everyone is amazed at Parasect. Ash scans Parasect in his Pokédex. Charmeleon gets back up and whips its tail at Team Rocket and they go blasting off into the air. Parasect uses Spore on Charmeleon and Charmeleon falls into a deep sleep. Ash returns Charmeleon back into its Pokéball.
Cassandra and her grandma says goodbye to Ash and co. Then Team Rocket falls straight to the ground. Cassandra is sitting on a chair and is bandaging Meowth's head. Meowth wants to be the mascot but Cassandra refuses because Meowth belongs to Team Rocket. Anyways, Cassandra's grandma has already found a Persian. Cassandra tells Meowth that she will take care of the Persian real well. So Team Rocket sadly walks along with no money in their hands.
