The episode starts out with the narrator explaining a brief summary of Ash's Pokémon. Ash walks along and then falls into a hole. They come to see that a group of Squirtle dug up the hole. All the Squirtle are wearing sunglasses. One of the Squirtle is wearing sunglasses that are pointed. That's the leader. Ash climbs out and orders Pikachu to use a Thunderbolt. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt at the leader but one of the Squirtle protects its leader.
Suddenly, Officer Jenny arrives and the Squirtle runs off. Officer Jenny asks them if they are okay and explains to them that there is a group of Pokémon called the Squirtle Squad. They play tricks on people and that if someone took care of them, they might behave better.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is spying on them and James and Meowth are complaining that they are hungry. Jessie sets up a picnic, and the Squirtle Squad arrive. They want their food. Team Rocket doesn't give them the food and the Squirtle Squad ties them up while they start munching. Jessie wants the Squirtle Squad to capture Pikachu but the leader says that they don't trust humans. Meowth says that Jessie and James are his pets and he wants the Squad to capture Pikachu. Their leader agrees.
Later, they attack Ash and co. at a brook and Pikachu falls in the water. A wild Goldeen appears and knocks Pikachu out with a Horn Attack. Then the Squirtle Squad ties them up. Meowth appears and Ash, Misty, and Brock finds out that he told the Squirtle to attack them. Ash pleads the Squirtle to let him go so that he can heal Pikachu with a Super Potiion. The Squirtle finally give in but if Ash doesn't return my noon tomorrow, Misty getts her hair dyed purple.
After a few hours Ash makes it to the supermarket. It's almost dark. Gary comes and opens the door which hits Ash in the face knocking him out. The next morning, Ash heads into the supermarket and he sees Teaam Rocket robbing the store. Team Rocket is stealing all the flash powder. Officer Jenny comes in and picks Ash up after he buys the Super Potion. They ggo to the back entrance and Ash climbs into the tiny hole.
Back in the cave, Ash heals Pikachu just as soon ass Team Rocket starts to bomb them with the bombs they made from the flash powder. They then quickly swipe Pikachu. The Squirtle trusts Ash and blows a hole in their balloon. Pikachu is saved and the Squirtle puts out the fire caused by the bombs. Ash then gets the leader Squirtle and they head to Vermillion City.
