Ash, Misty, and Brock continue their journey. They realize that they need to get through Mt. Moon to reach their destination. Before entering the cave, they see a guy being attacked by Zubat. Pikachu uses a Thundershock on the Zubat and they guy is saved. The guy’s name is Seymor and he is a researcher. Seymor offers to take the group for a tour of the cave. They agree. While on their tour, they see a lot of unhealthy Pokémon. Seymor explains that the light in the cave are ruining their habitat. Seymor then goes on explaining on how the Moon Stone helps “power up” the Pokémon. He tells them that the Moon Stone is somewhere in the cave. Team Rocket wants to battle Ash. Ash and Brock both battle Team Rocket. Ash uses Butterfree and Brock uses Zubat. He explains to Ash that he caught the Zubat just before they entered the cave. They defeat Team Rocket but Meowth manages to get away. He happens to follow a Clefairy holding a piece of the Moon Stone. He tries to catch it but Clefairy is too fast for him. Misty and Seymor follow Meowth and defeat him. Ash and Brock join them and they watch the Clefairy walk into another cave. The cave has a big Moon Stone and a couple of little Moon Stones next to it. The Clefairy joins some other Clefairy. Clefairy places the Moon Stone next to the big Moon Stone. The Moon Stones begin to glow.
Unfortunately, Team Rocket starts to steal the big Moon Stone and make a getaway. Brock uses Onix to find Team Rocket. They beat Team Rocket and the Moon Stone begins to turn some of the Clefairy to Clefable.
They soon make it out of Mt. Moon. Seymor decides to stay with the Clefairy and Clefable to study them more. The group walks on and notices a sign saying “Gary was here. Ash is a loser!” Ash gets very angry and rushes down to Cerulean City.
