The group walks out of Viridian Forest and they see a man selling rocks. Ash doesn’t buy any rocks and goes to the Pokémon center. While Ash is getting his Pokémon healed, Misty notices a poster about the Pokémon League. Misty explains to Ash that he has to defeat 8 trainers in order to qualify for the Pokémon League. They see that there is a gym in the city. Ash challenges the gym leader. The gym leaders name is Brock. Brock uses his Onix and Ash looses the match. Ash then sees the man that they saw earlier. It was the man who was selling rocks. The man’s name is Flint and he explains Brock’s history to Ash. So at night, Flint uses some wires and machinery to power up Pikachu. Pikachu is in real pain and uses its power to blow up the machinery.
The next day, Ash challenges Brock to a Pokémon battle again. Brock accepts and sends out Geodude. Ash sends out Pidgeotto and the battle begins. Geodude defeats Pidgeotto. Ash uses Pikachu. Pikachu defeats Geodude. Brock then sends out his Onix. The sprinklers go off and Misty tells Ash to use a Thundershock. Ash nods and tells Pikachu to use a Thundershock on Onix. Pikachu uses one and Onix falls over. Ash wins the match and wins the Boulder Badge. Flint comes and reveals his true self. Flint is actually Brock’s father. Brock hands Ash the Boulder Badge and decides to go with Ash on his journey. Brock leaves his father into taking care the kids.
