Affiliation is the process of two sites linking together. You place each other's linking button on both sites. A good webmaster should have a good variety of buttons so that you can choose the perfect one for your website. 88x31 and 88x16 are the most common sizes for linking buttons. My personal favorite is the 88x31 button. Everyone has one, and it's the perfect size for any affiliate list.

Affiliating with different websites will help your own site get more hits. Remember that the site that you are affiliating with should have similar content as you, a good layout, a similar amount of unique hits, and most importantly a helpful webmaster. I am usually very picky when it comes to affiliating.

If a site does not have any of those things, then what would the point be to affiliate?

When your site becomes more popular, you will see a lot of sites wanting to affiliate with you with fewer hits than you. I know this because of experience. Both sites and webmasters should share a common interest in each other. Let's say that I was to affiliate with a site that gets 20 unique hits a day. Right now I get way more than 20 hits. Doing that would be bad, very bad. Here's why: Many people check affiliate lists, and they usually will click some of the buttons. If I were to put that person's button on my site, that site would probably get more hits. However, what do I get in return? Not much because that site only gets around 20 hits per day. It wouldn't be fair to me. When a site affiliates with another site, make sure both webmasters are friends and that both sites get around the same amount of hits. I will talk about webmasters in the next section.

When affiliating, it is best that both site owners know a bit of each other. Why? Because not knowing some history about the owner means that you probably don't know much about their site. For all you know, the site that you are about to affiliate with could have tons of stolen information. How do I know this? Again, experience. Do not affiliate with random sites. Make sure you know the site well enough before you affiliate with them. Knowing the site well will ensure that the site has good quality information. You will be affiliated with a trustworthy site, and when you are affiliated with a good quality site that gets a lot of hits, then that will mean you will get hits in return. Another thing: affiliate with sites with webmasters that can help you. If you are stuck on something, you can rely on your affiliate. This will bring both sites even closer together. Sometimes, affiliates allow each other to use content provided that credit is given.

Here are some tips that you should know about with affiliation:
1) Only affiliate with sites you trust.
2) Do not affiliate with sites that have rude webmasters.
3) Try to affiliate with sites that have the same amount of hits as you.
4) ONLY affiliate with sites that have good spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
5) If a person demands for affiliation, don't waste your time doing so. Probably a bad webmaster. 6) Make good linking buttons that are attractive and stand out. Good looking buttons can really help.

Now you might be wondering something. You might think that I am breaking my own affiliation opinions. I will admit that that is true. If I were to break down my affiliates to the parts that follow my rules, I would probably be dropping half of my affiliates right now. However, since I am getting a few hits from the sites and I that I can trust the webmaster/site pretty well, it's fine.
